Forged Fungi

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of Forged Fungi. Mushrooms are one of the most sustainable food options, with low demands on food, space and other resources. Their production has a low carbon footprint and they are an ideal alternative to meat.

Our mushrooms are grown on sawdust and straw, byproducts of the forestry and agriculture industries.

We aim to reduce our use of single use plastics wherever possible, and as a result we cultivate our blue oyster mushrooms, our highest-yielding crop, in reusable containers. We hope to replicate this with our other varieties of mushrooms.

Our packaging for delivery is home compostable, except for some of the ice packs we use. Our non-compostable ice packs are all reused ice packs we have obtained that would have otherwise been destined for disposal. Once this stock is exhausted, our delivery will utilise fully home compostable ice packs made from a plant-based gel.

Free local delivery is either carried out on foot or by bicycle so is zero carbon 🌍
